Earlier this week, we reported that tthe body of missing Ville Platte woman Joyce Thomas was found, and Phillip Dewoody was arrested in connection with the case.

Opelousas officials also were investigating a kidnapping case they say Dewoody was connected to according to KATC.

Now, authorities with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office say that they are going to open their own investigation into Phillip Dewoody.

Last week, Joyce Thomas was reported missing, and then her body was recovered along I-49 between Opelousas and Sunset.

Dewoody was detained in relation to this case.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says,

Due to additional evidence in the Dewoody case involving the kidnapping of the Opelousas victim, our detectives have begun an investigation into the actions of Dewoody in the parish.

In addition to the investigation being opened, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says because this is now an ongoing investigation, they are not going to release any other information about what is happening with their case right now. Guidroz says they will add nothing to the information because they are currently conducting interviews.

Here is what Sheriff Guidroz told KATC,

This individual, Phillip Dewoody, is a dangerous, violent repeat offender, and I think the parole board should take a different look at people who come up for parole with records like this. This person killed a 13-year-old girl when he was 12. He's committed three or four armed robberies, he's committed rapes, kidnapping, aggravated escape. This guy's got a record a mile long and he paroled. There's something wrong with that picture.

He was paroled by the Louisiana Parole Board after still having 91 years on his sentence.
