House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana is in stable condition after he was one of five people shot after a white male reportedly opened fire on several members of Congress in a suburban area of Washington D.C. It happened at the Republican congressional baseball team’s early morning practice.

Scalise was reportedly among 5 shot during in the incident and airlifted to a hospital.
In a statement from his office, Scalise was shot in the hip and transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where he is currently undergoing surgery.
His office says Scalise was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone.
The congressman is grateful for the brave actions of U.S. Capitol Police, first responders and colleagues.
Scalise was reportedly shot standing at second base.
The suspected gunman has been described as a middle age white male and police say he is in custody.
Louisiana’s First Congressional District Congressman since 2008 chairs the House Republican Study Committee. Scalise is married with two children.
