MONROE, La. (AP) — A feasibility study will begin this month as officials in Monroe consider construction of a new arena.

Mayor Jamie Mayo tells The News-Star (http://tnsne.ws/XhXfvc ) the study would be conducted by an architectural firm and would take about 90 days to complete.

In November, the Monroe City Council approved the $95,000 contract with M3A Architecture, based in Jackson, Miss., to allow the consulting firm to begin work on the study.

M3A Architecture is expected to conduct a study to determine the feasibility for the city of Monroe to construct a new arena with the possibility of a four-star hotel near it.

After the $35 million Monroe Regional Airport terminal project was completed, Mayo said the new arena became one of the top priorities for the city.
