Super Bowl Weekend: How Much Will Americans Bet? [VIDEO]
Michael Brown, Research Analyst for LendEDU, talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the expansion of legalized sports gaming across America and how much money is being bet on this weekend's Super Bowl.
In a recent survey, LendEDU extensively questioned folks about their gambling habits, particularly in light of expanded gambling in a number of states.
Here's some of what LendEDU discovered:
- 60% of respondents indicated that they had never previously wagered on sports before it was legalized, while 30% had, and 10% opted not to say
- The average amount bet by respondents since sports wagering was legalized in their state was $3,911, the median was $124
- Since sports betting was legalized in their respective states, 37% of respondents indicate they have profited, while 19% say they have lost, 31% have broke even, and 13% opted not to say
- Before sports betting was legalized in their respective states, 59% of respondents indicated they profited, 19% had lost, 20% broke even, and 2% opted not to say
- Among respondents that have legally bet through an online sportsbook, 12% used a credit card to deposit funds and 8% of those respondents did not pay off their card balance in full the subsequent month
- 75% of respondents said they supported legalization of sports betting in their state during the process
