NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A 22-year-old man accused of wounding his ex-girlfriend and killing her mother surrendered to New Orleans police on Wednesday.

The Times-Picayune reports Keith Phillips was booked on counts of second-degree murder in the death of Tiesha Nix, 40, and with attempted second-degree murder in the shooting of Renesha Nix, 25.

Investigators said the Nixes were attacked in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Monday night.

Officers said Phillips and Renesha Nix argued at the complex, where Nix lives. Nix called her mother, officers said, and Phillips shot them after the mother arrived.

Tiesha Nix died of a gunshot to the head, police said.

Police allege Phillips then shot Renesha Nix multiple times. She was taken to a local hospital.

It was unclear whether Phillips has an attorney.
