The bridge over the Atchafalaya River was damaged in a truck crash Sunday afternoon.

The Long-Allen Bridge on La 182 over the Atchafalaya River will be closed for inspection on Monday, March 15th.

The work on the bridge will be include mechanical and electrical repairs.

DOTD officials cite the possibility of catastrophic failure as the reason for extending the bridge closure.

The homemade raft displaying an upside down American flag prompted the closing of the St. Claude Avenue Bridge.

DOTD says permit loads will be required to wait out the closures.

This closure is part of the Geaux South program to continue the widening of Highway 90 to six lanes between Albertson's Parkway to north of its intersection at Ambassador Caffery.

DOTD says you can detour using the other sections of Louisiana Highway 87, Louisiana Highway 3195 (the Nelson Canal Bridge) and Louisiana Highway 182.

DOTD officials say they apologize for the trouble of the road repairs, but say that they are necessary.

Alternate routes include using the Highway 71 exit or by using Three Mile Avenue.
