An ordinance was approved Tuesday night by a 6-3 vote of the Lafayette City-Parish Council to make changes to errors in the voter-approved December 8th charter amendments.

The vote on this issues is slated for Saturday, December 8.

There will be a public comment section about these proposals at the August 7 meeting.

Now, all the members of the LCG Council have offered town hall meetings to discuss possible deconsolidation of local government.

The meetings are being held in order to gather public input on the issue of partial deconsolidation of LCG.

The council voted 5-3 Tuesday night to put the item on an LCG agenda for final approval in two weeks.

Each of the original charter commission members was willing to join a new commission if asked to serve.

A proposed change to the city-parish charter would create a council within the already existing nine-member Lafayette City-Parish Council.

Durel praised the city's many accolades, including the sixteenth lowest unemployment rate in the country, the sixth fastest growing economy, and the second most optimistic city in the U.S.

The debate of consolidation was once again brought up last night at the Lafayette City-Parish Council meeting. Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux proposed a committee to explore limiting the control that council members representing areas outside the city limits have over city issues.

Lafayette Consolidated Government has governed the city of Lafayette and the unincorporated portions of the parish for 15 years.

The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce says it opposes deconsolidating Lafayette Parish Government.
