House Fire

A man was arrested in Albany, Louisiana this past Sunday after he allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend, killed her dogs with a shotgun, and burned down the camper she was living in.

The call was received at 5:32pm and SFD firefighters were on the scene three minutes later.

The home, which was converted into a duplex, was occupied by two families -- a family of five on one side and one person on the other.

While the pets were saved, contents of the homes sustained major damage.

Reports say that family members of the victims have said that the 15-year-old who died in the fire was babysitting her two younger brothers at the time.

Everything inside the home was destroyed by the blaze.

The woman's mother and child were inside of the home at the time of the incident which was apparently prompted by an argument.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says that the home was not secured.

Authorities on the scene say that the home only had one smoke detector inside and it was not working at the time of the blaze, per reports.

The fire has been ruled accidental.
