Courtney Deshawn Washington of New Iberia has been identified as a suspect after a 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach in Iberia Parish on Sunday night.
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says the jail will remain staffed as is mandated by the state, and the patrol division will be fully staffed to provide law enforcement in city and Iberia Parish.
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal and his co-defendants, Gerald Savoy and Mark Frederick, are asking the court to move the trial from Shreveport to Lafayette.
A superseding indictment released last week charges Ackal, top deputy Gerald Savoy and Capt. Mark Frederick with civil rights violations arising from the beatings of two men.
During their pursuit of the suspect, deputies say they saw him trying to reach into his waist band, and they later discovered he had a handgun in there.
