The shooting death of a 15-year-old brings new legislation to the table on how felonies committed with a gun that result in death should be handled by the judicial system.
The trial of Seth Fontenot, the 20-year-old man accused of killing one of three teens he suspected were breaking into his truck in February 2013, has been delayed again.
Fontenot was an 18-year-old freshman accounting major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette when he allegedly shot and killed 15-year-old Austin Rivault on Feb. 10, 2013.
The Third Circuit Court of Appeal ruled today that statements Seth Fontenot made following the shooting death of a Lafayette teenager can be used in his trial.
Seth Fontenot is charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder in the death of Austin Rivault and the shooting injuries of two other 15-year-old boys.
On Feb. 10, 15-year-old Austin Rivault and two of his friends were riding in a truck on Green Meadow Road in Lafayette when Fontenot allegedly opened fire on them.
