Sorrento has applied for emergency approval of the treatment from the United State Food and Drug Administration.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley and Sorrento Mayor Mike Lambert said Theriot told them he intends to start patrolling again on Monday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays.

The initial service agreement for sheriff's patrols in Sorrento was supposed to expire on December 21, but Wiley granted the town an extension.

The mayor and council are mulling the offer while also reviewing the possibility of keeping the town's police department and securing a new insurer willing to insure the police department at a cost the town can afford.
