Legislators get back down to business in Baton Rouge today as another week of meetings of the Legislature gets into full swing.  Lawmakers are still considering hundreds of pieces of legislation aimed at curbing spending, eliminating positions and tax proposals as the state grapple's with a 1.6 billion dollar shortfall.

State Representative Page Cortez of Lafayette joined Bernadette Lee and Ken Romero on The Morning Report to talk about the recently completed special session and to talk about the upcoming fiscal only session of the Louisiana Legislature.  Cortez says the budget will be the primary conern, but other bills will be considered.

Governor Jindal's proposed budget for the fiscal year that starts in July plugs a big revenue gap - partially - by laying off up to 2000 state employees.

Today, the Revenue Estimating Conference will be reporting to Governor Bobby Jindal the latest with sales, business and other taxes coming into the state's coffers.  The question is-will this make a major change in the amount of the this year's budget shortfall?  State Senator Mike Michot tries to answer that question.
