The US Food and Drug Administration is still weeks away from even starting to talk about approval for the vaccine, while the UK authorities have already issued approval.
Now its up to the FDA to move quickly to save lives. But unfortunately it sounds like they're looking to slow things down until next month, at the earliest.
The New York Post is reporting that Pfizer will seek approval from the government for an emergency vaccine on Friday. A representative of the pharmaceutical company says that if approved, millions of doses could be distributed within 24 hours.
Governor Edwards announced the Phase 3 guidelines for Louisiana at a press conference today. He later went to Twitter to deliver more information on his announcement and also is urging people to be realistic as Phase 3 may be where Louisiana stays until a vaccine is widely available.
Several scientists have serious concerns about the vaccine, not just because of the lack of testing but because there were several reports claiming that scientists injected themselves with the prototype in order to boost development.
Not only did those who passed on the vaccine remain unprotected from these quite deadly diseases - they were actually more likely to develop autism as well.
The developments have raised ethical questions about whether it's right to use untested treatments in people sickened by a disease that has no licensed treatment.
