Texas Lottery Confirms Huge Mega Millions Win in State Tuesday

Lottery players in the state of Texas from Sabine Pass in the southeast to El Pason in far west Texas to Amarillo up in the panhandle have been a little disappointed in Lady Luck over the past few days. It appears as if "the Lady" had taken a brief hiatus from bringing big-money lottery wins back to the Lone Star State. Lady Luck's hiatus in Texas, as of Tuesday night, is officially over.

Of the two multi-state lottery games that are administered by the Texas Lottery in the state of Texas, Powerball by far is the most popular game. However, Mega Millions has its fans and as of late has been a bit more lucrative in its payouts to Texas players. There was a $3 million dollar winner sold in Houston in May and there have been several $10,000-plus winners over the past month or so. With the exception of the past week.

Here is how Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing played out. This is the drawing for July 23, 2024.

The estimated annuitized top prize in Tuesday's drawing was $279 million. And the numbers that we saw roll out of the hopper were:

Our sources in Austin at the Texas Lottery said no ticket sold in Texas matched the numbers needed to claim the $279 million jackpot. Mega Millions game officials also confirmed that no other state sold a jackpot winner either.

But there were two Match 5 Million prize winners sold for Tuesday's drawing. Those tickets were sold in Connecticut and Virginia. There were also Match 5 Million winners with the Megaplier sold for last night. Those tickets were sold in Indiana, New Jersey, and Oregon. The prize for those tickets would be $4 million, before taxes.

The top Mega Millions prize won by a Texas-sold ticket was $40,000. One ticket sold in Texas earned that prize. However, four other tickets matched the same winning scenario of of four of five white balls and the Megaball. But those four players opted to not take advantage of the megaplier. Therefore their prize is $10,000.

The Mega Millions jackpot will be an estimated $306 million for the annuitized jackpot when they draw again on Friday. The lump sum payout is estimated to be $143.8 million. Meanwhile, tonight's Powerball drawing will be for an estimated jackpot of $114 million. The lump sum payout in Powerball is $54.6 million. The top prize in tonight's Texas Lotto with Extra! game is $8 million
