UPDATE: ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — A Texas county sheriff says an officer has been shot and killed at his own home just north of Austin.

Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton said at a news conference that the body of Sgt. Craig Hutchinson was found early Monday in the backyard of his own home in Round Rock, Texas.

No arrests have been made.

Hamilton says the officer used his law enforcement radio to call for help shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Round Rock is about 15 miles north of Austin.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — A sheriff's deputy has been shot and wounded near Austin.

A spokeswoman for the Travis County Sheriff's Office says the officer used his law enforcement radio to call for help shortly before 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Kristen Dark said the gunfire happened in Round Rock, about 15 miles north of Austin. She declined to say whether the deputy was on duty and provided no information on a possible suspect or the deputy's condition.

The Texas Department of Public Safety told TV station KXAN that the officer was shot in his home.

Police have asked nearby residents to stay inside.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said via Twitter: "Please keep our Travis County Sheriff's family in your thoughts and prayers. Sad, troubling time we live in. Austin police stands with our friends."
