The Cajuns Losing Streak Comes To An End
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns basketball team has been dealing with injuries all season and only had 8 scholarship players dressed for tonight's game against the Troy Trojans. The Cajuns were without Trajan Wesley as he sustained a concussion in the previous game. The Cajuns were hoping to get off the losing streak which had reached 6 games and get their first win in conference play. The Cajuns were able to pull away and make it ugly late as they won 79-62 and move to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the Sun Belt
The first half was a tale of runs for both teams. During the first few minutes of the game, both teams were struggling to score and the Cajuns had a 6-5 lead before Troy took the lead and extended it with an 8-0 run. The Cajuns later in the half would use a 14-5 run to cut the Troy lead to 1 before eventually taking the lead back.
The Trojans would tie it up and then use an 11-0 run with the help of a flagrant foul during a block-out after a free throw attempt to extend their lead. The Cajuns would cut their lead down to 5 at the end of the half. Tirus Smith would lead the Cajuns in scoring with 13 points in the first half.
The Cajuns were trailing early in the 2nd half but it didn't take long as they used a 12-0 run in the span of just about 4 minutes to take the lead for good and the Cajuns were able to enlarge their lead as they pulled away for the victory. The Cajuns were able to put up good offensive numbers thanks to having 5 guys score in double figures. The Cajuns were led in scoring by Mylik Wilson who had 18 points and added 13 rebounds.
The Cajuns will travel to Boone to face off against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Monday. They will continue the road trip as they face off against Georgia State on Thursday and Georgia Southern next Saturday.
