The New Orleans Saints Want This Horse To Win The Kentucky Derby

Do the New Orleans Saints care who wins this year's Kentucky Derby?

You bet they do!

At least, their owner does.

Lone Sailor, owned by GMB Racing Stable and Saints owner Gayle Benson, is a 50-to-1 long shot in Saturday's 144th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Lone Sailor was bred on March 30th, 2015 by Alexander-Groves-Matz LLC, sired by Majestic Warrior, a son of A.P. Indy, out of Ambitious, before being purchased by GMB Racing as a yearling for $120,000.

Over the course of eight career starts, Lone Sailor has one win, to go along with three second place finishes, and one third, earning GMB Racing $334,237.

His one win was a maiden special weight victory at Saratoga.

In Lone Sailor's last race, on March 24th, he finished second in the Louisiana Derby at the Fair Grounds.

Lone Sailor, who will be ridden by James Graham, will be breaking out of the #8 post in Saturday's Run for the Roses.

This isn't for the first horse that Benson has entered in the Derby. Mo Tom and Tom’s Ready finished 8th and 12th, respectively, in 2016.

Is Lone Sailor likely to win? No. At 50-to-1, his odds are long.

That being said, 50-to-1 long shots have won before, with Mine That Bird in 2009, and Giacomo in 2005 shocking the field.

So, if you're looking for a reason to pull for a certain horse, and you're a Saints fan; now you might have one.
