A strong cold front pushing into the area from the west and northwest is meeting a strong fetch of warm moist air out of the Gulf of Mexico this morning. The convergence zone of these two very different air masses is where forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center are predicting a severe weather threat.

Unfortunately, that convergence zone just happens to be very close to home this morning and that means the potential for severe weather across Acadiana. There has been a Tornado Watch posted for many of Louisiana's coastal parishes. The watch includes Cameron, Vermilion, St. Mary, St. Martin, and Iberia. Forecasters say the threat of severe weather in and around the watch area will continue until Noon.

The watch area extends eastward through the New Orleans Metro Area, the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the beaches of Lower Alabama. Over the next several hours much of South Louisiana will experience heavy showers and or thunderstorms. Some of those storms could reach severe limits.

The National Weather Service Radar out of Lake Charles shows where the heaviest of the precipitation is located. Forecasters believe the severe weather threat should end for the area by midday today.
