2018 could see the return of traffic cameras to Lafayette, but with a twist.

In June of this year, Lafayette let it's contract with Redflex Cameras expire. A reported $7 million in unpaid fines still remains. These fines have been turned over to a couple of different collection agencies, but LGC believes it is unlikely that these fines will ever be collected.

KATC reports Joel Robideaux says he's considering bringing them back, but only to school zones.

So if traffic camera fines are basically pointless, then why bring them back?

From KATC -

"Robideaux is proposing, all school zone violations will be handled in city court. Before, Redflex sent all traffic violations through the mail, which proved to be ineffective."
