GRETNA, La. (AP) — Prosecutors say Terry Speaks tried to get police to shoot him when he was arrested in connection with the murder and dismemberment of a Bourbon Street stripper three years ago.

The New Orleans Advocate reports that the allegation is in court filings, saying prosecutors will produce evidence at trial indicating that Speaks' and co-defendant Margaret Sanchez' actions indicate they were aware of their guilt when they were arrested.

Both are charged with second-degree murder of 24-year-old Jaren Lockhart, whose body parts washed up on Mississippi beaches in the days after she disappeared.

Speaks is scheduled for trial June 15. Trial is not yet scheduled for Sanchez.

Defense attorneys say searches of Speaks' apartment and vehicle did not turn up any evidence that Lockhart was killed in Louisiana.
