Today on 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' Trooper Stephen Hammons invited Jim Simon, General Manager of the American Sugarcane League in with him to discuss highway safety during harvest season.

According to Simon,

Harvest seasons continue to be safer each year as fewer small, slow moving tractors are being used to transport the cane crop to the sugar mills for processing.  More enclosed 18 wheelers are being used which keeps road debris to a minimum and bigger vehicles means fewer of them are on the road at any given time.

Simon said the sugarcane industry contributes $1 billion to the Louisiana economy each year.
