Two area men have died as a result of a head on collision on Louisiana Highway 85, near 674.  It happened Saturday around 5:30pm when 24-year-old Joel Morvant of New Iberia was headed southbound on the highway.  That was when he hit a northbound truck driven by 54-year-old Gregory Landry of Lafayette.

State Police say that Morvant, who was wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by The Iberia Parish Coroner.  A passenger in Morvant's Mazda 929, 27-year-old Cody Snyder ended up with moderate injuries and he was taken to a local hospital.

After the crash, Landry's truck caught fire, so police are working to find out if he was wearing a seat belt when the wreck happened.  Landry was also pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.

Police are uncertain if impairment was a factor in the crash, so they have sent routine toxicology samples to the State Police Crime Lab.

The crash remains under investigation.
