UPDATE: 1:00 P.M PRESS CONFERENCE

Details of yesterday's plane crash are still very few and officials working on the crash are offering no speculation or analysis at this time.

Here's what they know:

Once the plane departed it rose to 900 ft in altitude and the plane made a left turn. At this point, the plane issued a minimum safe altitude warning as it reached 700 ft in altitude.

Officials say there was no distress call made and no conversations with the crew after the low altitude warning was issued.

Investigators are continuing to look at pilots' quallifications and the history of the aircraft and maintenance records.

 

Officials will be on the scene for as long as it takes to get the full details of the crash.

They are hoping to move the debris by tomorrow

The investigation will take between 12-18 months.


 

2:30 pm UPDATE:

Alton Trahan from the Lafayette Fire Department has identified the passengers in today's plane crash. They are as follows:

Deceased

Ian E. Biggs, white male, the plane's pilot, age 51

Robert Vaughn Crisp II, white male, age 59

Carley Ann McCord, white female, age 30

Gretchen D. Vincent, white female, age 51

Michael Walker Vincent, white male, age 15

Injured plane passenger remains hospitalized and in critical condition:

Stephen Wade Berzas, white male, age 47

There were three others injured who were not passengers. Those individuals' names have not been publicly released by the Fire Department. The status of their conditions has not been confirmed yet.


 

1:40 pm UPDATE:

The Associated Press is reporting the following:

Louisiana sports reporter Carley McCord has died in a plane crash on the way to a college football playoff game in Louisiana. Her husband, Steven Ensminger Jr., confirmed the death to The Associated Press on Saturday. Ensminger's father is the offensive coordinator for Louisiana State University's football team. The team is to play Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon.


 

11:15 am UPDATE: Officials confirm five people have died and one has been taken to a local hospital. There were six people total on the plane. Three bystanders were injured and all also taken to local hospitals.

KATC is reporting the aircraft is a Piper Fixed Wing Multi-Engine aircraft and is registered to Cheyenne Partners LLC based out of Lafayette.

The plane departed Lafayette Regional Airport and crashed shortly after under unknown circumstances.

Alton Trahan, Spokesman for the Lafayette Fire Department, says in a press release, that a car on the ground was engulfed in flames when officials got to the scene.

One person from that vehicle was taken to a local hospital.

Both the FAA and NTSB investigators are on their way to the accident site.

Everyone is being asked to stay away from this area. Feu Follet and Verot School Road will be closed the remainder of the day.


Details are few at this time, but KPEL has been notified of a plane crash that happened this morning.

Five people have died according to a KPEL news source, and the crash is said to have happened in a wooded area behind the Pinhook Walmart.

The area of Pinhook Road near the post office along with Verot and Feu Follet is blocked off by emergency officials.

At this time, officials are investigating to figure out what caused the plane to crash.

There were six people on the plane.

One person has burns over 100 percent of their body.

The plane skid through a parking lot, a field and the plane was engulfed in flames.

A bystander was also injured.
