UL has announced their in-person Commencement ceremony for Spring 2020 graduates will be held this Saturday (11/7/20) at M.L. Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park.

You might be asking "Wait, why is UL having a Spring 2020 graduation ceremony in November?"

The answer is...COVID-19.

The Spring 2020 graduating class was not able to graduate with a traditional, and well deserved ceremony because of the pandemic. Graduates did take part in a virtual ceremony and "diplomas, commencement programs, and honor cords and medallions were mailed to graduates the following week" according to louisiana.edu.

Because these graduates deserve a traditional ceremony, UL is making sure they get it.

"On Saturday, about 180 Spring 2020 graduates will celebrate in the traditional manner – at a live ceremony, in full regalia, among family and friends, said Dr. DeWayne Bowie, UL Lafayette’s vice president for Enrollment Management."

The Spring 2020 graduating class have not only gone through circumstances no other graduating class has ever has, but they are also setting a new UL record.

1,905 degrees were earned by the Spring 2020 graduating class which is the most given out in a single semester by UL, ever.

The ceremony will begin at 8am this Saturday. Seating will be arranged for proper social distancing, and guests and graduates will be required to wear masks or face coverings.
