UL Softball Downs SLU, Extends Win Streak
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns extended their current softball win streak on Wednesday night.
10th-ranked Louisiana defeated the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 7-1, in a non-conference affair at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.
With the win, UL ran their current win streak to 11 games.
Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the bottom half of the third inning, when Alissa Dalton singled with two outs, before scoring on a run-scoring double off the bat of Julie Rawls, to give them a 1-0 lead.
UL put the game away in the bottom half of the 5th inning, scoring 5 runs, all with two outs, including a triple band a steal of home by Dalton, an RBI double by Sarah Hudek, and a 3-run double off the bat of Kourtney Gremillion, to widen their lead to 6-0.
Southeastern Louisiana scored their first, and only run of the game, in the top half of the 6th inning, when Jaquelyn Ramon singled, before scoring on a single by Ella Manzer, to make it 6-1.
The Cajuns tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half of the 6th inning, when Keeli Milligan walked, stole second, stole third, and then scored on a grounder off the bat of Dalton, to make it 7-1.
That turned out to be all the scoring in the game, as the Cajuns went on to the 7-1 triumph.
Louisiana, who outhit Southeastern Louisiana, 6-5, was led at the plate by Dalton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, while Kourtney Gremillion drove in three runs.
Carrie Boswell (8-0) recorded the win inside the circle for the Cajuns, allowing one run on five hits over 5.1 innings pitched.
Alley McDonald (8-5) suffered the loss for the Lions, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits over 4.2 innings of work.
With the victory, the Cajuns improved to 34-4 on the season, while Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 22-16.
Louisiana returns to the diamond on Friday evening, when they travel to Boone, North Carolina to take on the Appalachian St. Mountaineers in the opening game of a three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series.
