The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns typically get off to fast starts, and this year is no exception.

Of course, programs as successful as Louisiana's tend to get off to fast starts, but it's always fun to compare the current start to those of yesteryear.

The 23th-ranked Cajuns swept through the Ragin' Cajuns Classic last weekend at Lamson Park, winning all six games they played.

That 6-0 beginning matches last year's start, which UL got off to, before losing to Florida in their 7th game of the season.

The 2017 edition won their first four games, before a 4-3 defeat to Southern Miss.

The 2016 squad also got off to a 6-0 start, before their first loss, a 6-3 setback to Oregon.

This Louisiana team has some work to do to match the start of the 2015 squad, who started the year 14-0, before losing to Alabama, 5-1.

The 2013 and 2014 UL squads both lost their second games of the year, but prior to that, the 2012 got off to a start that will be hard for any team in the future to duplicate.

That 2012 team won their first 28 games, before going on to finish the season with an incredible overall mark of 53-6.

Since 2000, two other Louisiana teams reached the double-digit season-opening win streak mark, with the 2006 and 2011 teams both winning 10-straight games to begin their respective seasons, prior to a loss.

So, how many games can the Cajuns win this year before their first loss?

Well, this team is really good, so this streak could last awhile, but softball is also a very humbling game, and a loss could certainly happen at any time.

That being said, Louisiana will be the favorites in this weekend's Louisiana Classic Tournament at Lamson Park.

UL will play five games, against the likes of Jackson St., Austin Peay, and Stephen F. Austin.

Business will pick up the following two weekends, when Louisiana travels to tournaments in Waco, Texas (February 22-24) and Norman, Oklahoma (March 1-3) against the likes of Baylor and Oklahoma, both nationally-ranked teams.

It will be fun to see how long they can keep their season-opening win streak going before they finally get tripped up.

Already, they've managed to keep the tradition of good starts alive.
