UL Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Southern Miss

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun softball team ran their current win streak to nine games on Wednesday, after sweeping a non-conference doubleheader from the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at Lamson Park.
Louisiana won both games in five-inning, mercy-rule fashion, winning the opener, 18-2, before taking the nightcap, 10-0.
In the first game, the Cajuns jumped on top early, scoring four runs in the first inning, courtesy of a two-run double by first baseman Matte Haack, and a two-run homer by outfielder Shellie Landry.
Louisiana made it 8-0 in the bottom half of the third inning, with third baseman Natalie Fernandez, shortstop Nerissa Myers, and catcher Sarah Draheim all driving home runs, in a four-run inning.
If that wasn't enough, the Cajuns put the game completely out of the reach in the bottom of the fourth, scoring ten runs, courtesy of five homers in the frame. Landry homered first in the inning, her second of the night, and that shot was followed by homers by Kelsey Vincent, Shelbi Redfearn, and Gabrielle Felps, before Landry belted her second of the inning, and her third of the game, to end the scoring.
Landry finished the game going 4-for-4, with three home runs, four runs scored, and four RBI's.
Jordan Wallace (16-6) pitched four innings of hitless softball to record the win, while Kaitlin Wilson (4-11) was charged with the setback for Southern Miss.
In the second game, again, Louisiana got of to a quick start, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the first inning, courtesy of a three-run homer by Haack, and a run-scoring double by second baseman Samantha Walsh, giving them a 4-0 lead.
The game stayed that way until the bottom of the third, when Walsh clobbered a two-run homer, making the score 6-0. The Walsh homer gave the Cajuns two in the game, and eight for the doubleheader.
The Cajuns later scored four runs in the bottom half of the fourth, with Myers driving in two runs, and Draheim and Haack adding one apiece, to end the scoring.
Walsh and Haack led the way, offensively, in game two, with each collecting two hits, and each driving in three runs.
Victoria Brown (7-1) was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, tossing four innings of shutout softball, while Beth Dietrich suffered the loss for the Golden Eagles.
With the two wins, Louisiana improved to 27-11, overall this season, while Southern Miss fell to 11-32.
The Cajuns return to action this weekend, as they play host to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, in a three-game, weekend, Sun Belt Conference series.
