The 15th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team picked up two mercy rule wins in the Louisiana Classic Softball Tournament on Saturday, defeating Texas St., 9-1, in six innings, and Mississippi Valley St., 16-4, in five innings, at Lamson Park.

For Louisiana, it was their fourth, and fifth consecutive victories, with all of them coming via the mercy rule.

In the first game against Texas St., the Cajuns scored single runs in the first, second, third, and fifth innings, before unloading with five runs in the sixth inning.

Senior catcher Sarah Draheim led Louisiana at the plate, going 3-for-4, with two home runs, and four RBI's, while senior third baseman Natalie Fernandez went 3-for-3, with two runs.

In the circle, sophomore Jordan Wallace picked up her fourth win of the year against no defeats, throwing a complete game one-hitter, without allowing a walk, while striking out eight.

Anne Marie Taylor, who dropped to 0-3 on the season, suffered the loss for the Bobcats.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 5-1, while Texas St. fell to 0-6.

In their second game of the day, the Cajuns hammered Mississippi Valey St. for the second straight day.

After defeating the Delta Devils, 13-2, on Friday night, Louisiana rolled to a 16-4 win on Saturday.

Louisiana jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, then added nine runs in the second inning, and cruised to the 12-run win from there.

Senior outfielders Brianna Cherry and Megan Waterman each homered for the Cajuns, while Sara Corbello added three hits in the runaway win.

Junior left-handerKristen Martinez (1-1) recorded her first win as a Cajun, throwing the first four innings, before sophomore right-hander Christina Hamilton finished the contest.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 6-1, while Mississippi Valley St. fell to 1-5.

The cajuns conclude play in the Tournament on Sunday, taking on Texas St. at 1:30 pm.
