An Abbeville man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Wednesday that happened at the corner of Greene and Schlessinger Streets sometime around noon today.
Our news partners at KATC say the man - whose body was lying in the street - was a veteran who suffered from PTSD and had two children, according to neighbors and friends. They also report neighbors believe that deputies were there to take him to a hospital for help.
The deputy was wounded and is at an area hospital as we await word of his condition.
Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon tells news outlets that Louisiana State Police will be handling the investigation, which is standard for officer-involved shootings.
