Victim Identified as Fatal Accident Claims Life of Elderly Pedestrian in Iberia Parish

A tragic accident on Louisiana Highway 83 south of Louisiana Highway 14 resulted in the death of a 75-year-old New Iberia resident, Francis Firmin, on the night of July 13, 2024.

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop I, the incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. when Firmin was setting triangular traffic cones in the southbound lane of LA 83. His vehicle had become stuck in the east ditch, and he was attempting to recover it. During this time, a 2002 Ford Mustang traveling south on LA 14 struck Firmin.

Firmin sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained, did not sustain any injuries. While impairment on the part of the Ford driver is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were collected from all parties involved and submitted for analysis.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
