A major accident that occurred on Thursday night on Ambassador Caffery Parkway has resulted in the death of a Maurice resident, as confirmed by the Lafayette Police Department. The incident, which involved a collision between a truck and a motorcycle, took place at approximately 7:48 PM, leading to significant road closures and traffic rerouting.

The accident unfolded when a truck (Vehicle 1), traveling north in the left turn lane of the 4000 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway, attempted to turn west onto Dover Blvd. As the truck crossed into the southbound lanes, it was struck on its passenger side rear by a motorcycle (Vehicle 2) that was traveling south in the outside lane of the 3900 block.

The motorcyclist, identified as 34-year-old Ronnie Lee Trahan from Maurice, LA, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. The driver of the truck was unharmed and cooperated fully with law enforcement officials, providing a voluntary breath sample that showed no alcohol present (0.000g%BAC).

The Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Division is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors. The area was closed to traffic for several hours as emergency responders and investigators worked at the scene, but it has since been reopened.
