(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that a $100,000 Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) grant has been awarded to Vermilion Parish to promote coastal restoration near Weeks Bay and the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway south of Lafayette.

“We’re all well aware of the importance of ongoing coastal restoration work in southwest Louisiana, particularly in severely affected areas like Vermilion Parish,” said Vitter. “Grants like this one are a big help to the communities and local ecosystems that play such a vital role in supporting our energy economy.”

Specifically, the grant will fund a joint study between Vermilion and Iberia Parishes to evaluate innovative proposals to restore and protect the shoreline, build landmass and create vegetated wetlands in the affected area.

CIAP, administered by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, allocates coastal restoration funds to six eligible Outer Continental Shelf oil-and-gas-producing states based on offshore energy revenues collected by the federal government.
