HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Hammond grocery stores will soon be able to sell alcohol on Sundays.

A 4-1 vote of the Hammond City Council on Tuesday night approved an ordinance for retail sales of alcohol on Sundays at grocery stores and similar establishments. Mayor Mayson Foster said he would sign the ordinance once it was presented to him this week, meaning retail alcohol sales could start this Sunday.

Nobody spoke against the ordinance at the meeting.

LeBlanc's Food Stores owner Randal LeBlanc said he expects to see a drastic increase in Sunday revenue as a result of the ordinance.

Bar owner Dan Lambert of Cate Street Pub said he intends to seek a law change that would allow Hammond bars to sell drinks on Sundays.
