WEST MONROE, La. (AP) — West Monroe, La., Police Chief Christopher Elg has accepted a similar position with the police department in Tequesta, Fla.

Cpl. J.P. Gabb tells The News-Star Elg will remain as West Monroe's chief until Jan. 5 and will take over as chief in Tequesta on Feb. 4.

West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris said he would speak with members of the department and make a choice of an interim chief this week date.

Before Christmas, Elg had been considered for positions with departments in Bismarck, N.D., South Bend, Ind., and Bellingham, Wash.

Tequesta is in southeastern Florida, just north of Miami.
