WINNSBORO, La. (AP) — A 24-year-old Franklin Parish woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

Authorities say LaSasha Allen placed her 20-month-old daughter in an unrestrained position in a car and opened the door while rounding a curve in December. The child fell out of the car and sustained multiple injuries, including a broken arm, skull fracture and abrasions.

The News-Star reports District Attorney Mack Lancaster called it a "heinous crime."

Assistant District Attorney Will Barham said Allen was on probation for a 2011 attempted aggravated arson. Barham said Allen tried to set a house on fire while two of her children were inside. She was given an eight-year suspended sentence and five years' probation, which was revoked after the cruelty conviction.
