HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — The president of the Chamber of Commerce in Hailey, Idaho, says, "The joy has all of a sudden become not so joyful."

Town officials have canceled an end-of-June, welcome home celebration for Bowe Bergdhal, the soldier just released by the Taliban after five years of captivity.

Bergdahl was captured in 2009 in Afghanistan after walking away from his unit, unarmed.

Critics accuse him of desertion. Hailey officials say they've been swamped with hate mail and angry calls.
