Durel Proposes Population Based Budget: Lafayette Live

City-Parish President Joey Durel stopped by “Mornings with Ken and Bernie” today for our weekly “Lafayette Live” chat.
Today’s hot topic: budget allocation. The City-Parish President has had a full plate recently attempting to determine the Lafayette Consolidated Government’s best course of action moving forward with the budget.
Durel explained the population based budget plan he proposed last night during an LCG meeting.
In the first 4 years of consolidation, it was broken down based on population, which is exactly what I proposed.
When asked by a caller about a plan for the Parish to pay back the misallocated funds, the City-Parish President responded,
I don’t know how the parish would or could pay the funds back. Certainly if a lawsuit was filed, though I’m not sure exactly how it would happen, it would be possible for the funds to be payed back, but that’s not how I’m operating. We’ve discovered the problem, we’ve recognized the problem, we’ve corrected the problem, and now we’re moving forward.
