Lafayette Man Arrested In Child Rape Case
A man accused of raping a little girl was arrested today. Just over two weeks ago, Captain Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says the girl's mother told them a Lafayette man had sex with her daughter back in 2008. Jarius Carson, 19 years old today, was 15 at the time, while the victim was under 13 years old at the time. Judice says an arrest warrant was issued for Carson ten days ago after multiple attempts to interview him were unsuccessful. Judice says when deputies found Carson around 4 PM yesterday on Scottsdale near its intersection with Winward, he tried to run away on foot. But authorities caught up to him and put him in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. Though Carson was only 15 years old at the time of the crime, he's being treated as an adult because the judge believes that probable cause does exit against him. Investigators have indicated Carson was not a stranger to the girl but will not be more specific than that. Carson is being held on a $250,000 bond.
