The Lafayette Consolidated Government and Lafayette Utility Systems will hold its annual rain barrel pick up tomorrow for customers who pre-ordered the eco-friendly devices.

City-Parish Government representatives will be distributing the rain barrels tomorrow (Saturday, May 15) at the Dean Domingues Compost Facility (400 North Dugas Road, Lafayette, LA 70506) from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Lafayette Consolidated Government Public Works Department offers the rain barrels each spring for Lafayette residents who wish to save money, conserve water, and reduce storm-water runoff. Though the program has been open to city residents, it has been extended to those who live in the unincorporated areas, as well.

This year, 300 of the discounted rain barrels were sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Since 2012, more than 1,400 rain barrels have been distributed.  LCG estimated that through this program, more than 2 million gallons of water, used for outdoor applications, have been conserved so far.
