The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is kicking off "Problem Gambling Awareness Week" this morning. Tom Dumas is the Program Manager for the Office of Behavioral Health and he says it's estimated that 100,000 adults have a gambling problem in Louisiana. Dumas says they are trying to get the word out that there are services available for people who think they have a problem and want help...(He says the best way to get help is to call the problem gamblers hotline at 1-877-770-7867.) Dumas says treatment for problem gambling is provided by the state free for all citizens. He says once you call the number you will be referred to a counselor in your area.
