Sister-In-Law Of Ex-Congressman Injured At Home
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Police say the sister-in-law of former U.S. Rep. William Jefferson was hospitalized in serious condition after suffering a severe head injury at her home.
Police initially reported Sandra Peters Jefferson as a gunshot victim. But Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said Friday afternoon that he could not confirm the cause of her injury.
The victim is the wife of Archie L. Jefferson, a younger brother of William Jefferson.
It's the latest trouble to befall the Jeffersons, a once-powerful political family beset in recent years by scandal and illness.
William Jefferson is serving a federal prison term for bribery.
