After searching through their archives, the Daily Advertiser discovered old stories on the discovery of the remains of Lisa Pate. At the time, her family said she had a history of drug abuse.
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- A grand jury has indicted Brandon Scott Lavergne on charges he kidnapped and murdered missing University of Louisiana at Lafayette student Mickey Shunick. But in a surprising development, the grand jury also indicted Lavergne on a separate first degree murder charge stemming from a case in July of 1999...
Lavergne's attorneys filed a motion Monday seeking a probable cause hearing. Such a hearing would determine whether there was enough evidence to charge him with the first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping of Mickey Shunick.
Northside Assembly of God in Crowley Pastor Loyd Signley says Lavergne "never gave any appearance or evidence that he was capable of anything like he's accused of."
Mickey Shunick was last seen the morning of May 19. Brandon Scott Lavergne was admitted to a Jefferson Parish hospital later that day, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
St. Landry Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says his office received a tip of a possible grave on St. Ann's Catholic Church in Swords that's not far from Brandon Scott Lavergne's property. Guidroz says nothing was found.
