The Lafayette City-Parish government will stop collecting an extra penny in sales tax that was imposed in a small area of north Lafayette in 2007 to spur an economic development project that never materialized.

Joey Durel, Lafayette City Parish President, joined Ken Romero and Bernadette Lee for "Lafayette Live".  Durel talked about Tuesday's Council vote where members Jared Bellard and William Theriot delayed a final vote on their measure.  The measure would halt local government from passing any taxes without a vote of the people.  Durel shares his thoughts:

Joyce Linde with the Tea Party of Lafayette joined The Morning Report today to discuss tonight's Lafayette City Parish Council Meeting.  Linde says their members support the ordinance 0-088-2011 because it would require a public vote before any taxes could be levied.

The Chairman of the Lafayette City Parish Councilman Kenneth Boudreaux came in to talk about a variety of different issues being discussed in Lafayette.  Boudreaux gave his thoughts on the Charter Commission, TIFS and smoking in public.

Lafayette will not be getting a four-star luxury hotel and convention center, at least for now.

Joyce Linde with the Tea Party of Lafayette joined KPEL this morning to talk about last night's Tea Party meeting with Councilman Jared Bellard and William Theriot.  Linde also talked about Wednesday night's fireworks when Councilman Keith Patin held a meeting at the South Regional Library.

Tonight, Lafayette City Parish Councilman Keith Patin will hold a town hall meeting for his constituents at the Southside location of the Lafayette Library.  Patin tells Bernadette Lee and Ken Romero that he thinks TIFS are likely to be discussed.

Panelists Anthony Emmons, Carol Ross and Mike Stagg debated issues related to the Obama Administration's 2012 budgets and TIF districts.
