Trooper Stephen Hammons, Public Information Officer for Troop I, LA State Police joined 'Mornings With Ken and Bernie' today and pointed out that some courteous drivers sometimes help others to break the law.  We noted seeing a driver attempt to cross Pinhook Road and blocking traffic in both directions.

According to Trooper Hammons,

Blocking a private driveway with your vehicle is not against the law but blocking traffic flow is against the law.

In the case we outlined for Hammons he said,

The courteous driver letting a driver get into traffic did not break any law but the driver having part of their vehicle in the south bound lane of traffic and the front of their vehicle in the center turn lane was in violation of state law if they were hindering traffic flow in either lane.

According to Trooper Hammons,

The center turn lane is intended for turning and may be used for up to 200 hundred feet to merge into traffic but at no time may be blocked to cross a multi-lane road.
