Two Dead After Crashing Into Horse Trailer In Eunice

EUNICE, La. (KPEL) -- Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash in St. Landry Parish.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons says 42-year-old David Deever of Geismar was towing a horse trailer on Industrial Drive just after midnight Sunday morning. Hammons says Deever turned left onto U.S. Highway 190 and into the path of a three-wheel motorcycle.

52-year-old Ronald Bellard of Eunice and 52-year-old Carla Barras of Opelousas, who were on the motorcycle, crashed into the side of the trailer.

Bellard was pronounced dead at the scene. Barras was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Hammons says they were both wearing helmets.

Deever was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were taken, and Hammons says charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
