Governor Bobby Jindal wants the Board of Regents to undertake a study of whether the University of New Orleans and Southern University of New Orleans should be merged and become part of the University of Louisiana System.  Both UNO and SUNO have experienced significant drops in enrollment since Hurricane Katrina.  Jindal says graduation rates are low also with SUNO posting only a five-percent graduation rate over six-years and UNO's coming in at only 21-percent.  A two-thirds majority of the Legislature would have to approve the merger for it to take place.
