Two football players that are on the West Mary High School team were arrested this week after an investigation by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.

The two players, ages 15 and 16, were arrested on warrants for battery of a school or recreational athletic official after allegedly hitting a referee.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry says the charges stem from an incident on the football field during a game against Erath High School.  Investigators say the teens punched the referee in the head and shoulder areas.

Landry says the case remains under investigation.
