BATON ROUGE, La. -- Nominations are being accepted for Louisiana Economic Development's 2011 Lantern Awards. Each year, the Lantern Awards recognize one outstanding manufacturer from each of Louisiana's eight Regional Planning and Development Districts. The deadline to submit nominations is Monday, May 2.

Nomination packets can be found at the Louisiana Association of Planning and Development Districts' website, www.lapdd.org. Nomination packets should be submitted to the corresponding planning district office. Anyone may nominate a manufacturer for the award.
"We are delighted to recognize some of Louisiana's leading manufacturing companies for their contributions to our state's economy," said LED Secretary Stephen Moret. "While we continue to attract new business investment to our state, our top economic development priority remains retaining existing Louisiana employers that already contribute so much to our state economy."
Awards will be presented Tuesday, June 14, during a reception held at the Governor's Mansion. Award winners are selected based on their excellence in manufacturing and community involvement during the three years prior to the nomination. The state has recognized more than 250 selected manufacturers since 1979.
Lanterns received by the award recipients are handcrafted and donated by Bevolo Gas and Electric Lights in New Orleans. Since 1945, Bevolo has manufactured traditional and antique lighting.
The Lantern Awards are a partnership among LED, Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association and Louisiana Quality Foundation. For more information about the 2011 Lantern Awards, contact Skip Smart at 225.342.4321 or smart@la.gov.
