2011 is shaping up to be a busy and exciting year for politics in Louisiana. 2011 promises to be an exciting year for politics in Louisiana. U.L. Lafayette political science professor Pearson Cross says state lawmakers must go into a special session to draw up new state and federal districts--and decide which one of seven U.S. congressional representatives is put out of a job. He says "contentious" is an understatement. After redistricting comes a regular session of the legislature. Dr. Cross says partisan politics will be on display, as lawmakers will no doubt butt heads over slashing state expenses to meet a $1.6-Billion revenue shortfall for the fiscal year that starts in July. 2011 is also a major election year for Louisiana, with voters deciding all statewide elected offices. Cross says Governor Jindal will likely win re-election, but most believe he will not serve a full 2nd term. He says that puts the focus, again, on the Lt. Governor's race this fall.
