$250 Approved for Critical Workers – Who’s on the List?
The Senate has unanimously passed a bill to give thousands of front line workers a one time check of $250 dollars for everything they have done since the COVID-19 pandemic devastated our nation.
Shreveport Representative Sam Jenkins sponsored the measure and he wants to show those workers how much they are appreciated.
These checks will go out to nurses, police officers, grocery store workers, bus drivers and many others.
This money is available to those who qualify if they make less than $50,000 a year.
Here's the full list of workers who are included:
(1) Nurses, assistants, aides, medical residents, pharmacy staff, phlebotomists,
respiratory therapists, and workers providing direct patient care in inpatient and
outpatient dialysis facilities.
(2) Housekeeping, laundry services, food services, and waste management personnel in
hospitals and health care facilities.
(3) Long-term care facility personnel, outpatient care workers, home care workers,
personal assistance providers, home health providers, home delivered meal providers,
childcare service providers.
(4) Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, fire and rescue personnel, law
enforcement personnel, public health epidemiologists.
(5) Bus drivers; retail fuel center personnel; sanitation personnel; residential,
commercial, and industrial solid waste and hazardous waste removal personnel;
storage and disposal personnel.
(6) Grocery store, convenience store, and food assistance program personnel.
(7) Mortuary service providers.
(8) Veterinary service providers.
This measure is expected to cost $50 million. The money will come from federal COVID-19 funding. The bill is now headed to the Governor for his signature. Workers will have to apply with the Department of Revenue to get the money. The application process is expected to be open from July 15th through October 31st.
